Properties of hightemperature treated wood from KATRES chambers

The process effects on wood chemical composition and therefore changes the properties of wood:

  • lower equilibrium moisture content
  • highly diminished shrinkage and swelling
  • improved dimensional stability
  • improved biological durability against insects
  • improved biological resistance to rot and mould
  • resin is evaporated, dead knots fall out
  • bending strength decreases slightly
  • improved surface wearing
  • wood becomes lighter in weight
  • wood colour of changes into warm tone of brown colour uniformly throughout
  • the treatment makes abundant Northern wood species look like rare tropical ones, and the real rain forests are saved
  • improved thermal conductivity properties
  • long-lasting service life
  • because of reduced deformation High temperature treated wood is good base for coating

High temperature treated wood is environmentally friendly – only heat and steam are used in the manufacturing process, no chemicals or additional constituents are applied.
